When Rachael was starting her secondary school studies, she was living with her parents and her siblings and her family was responsible for paying her school fees and all her school expenses. One night in March this year while she was in school, Rachael lost her whole family at once to Cyclone Freddy. Her village was flooded with water which wiped her entire family along with their collapsed home. Neighbors’ efforts to save them proved futile as the waters were too strong.
When schools were temporarily closed in the southern part of Malawi due to the cyclone and all the students were sent back home, Rachael was welcomed with the shocking news of the loss of all her family members.
One well-wisher Mrs Justin, volunteered to take care of her and ever since she has been living with her. However, Mrs. Justin had no resources to sponsor Rachael in school hence bringing herself to the attention of the Othakarhaka Foundation.
Because of your support our dear friends, today Rachael can finally smile as a well-wisher has taken over responsibility to sponsor her in school until she graduates from secondary school.
From the bottom of our hearts, we are so much indebted.
