As the echoes of the festive season holidays end, the corridors of hope for over 400 students under Othakarhaka Foundation Education Scholarship restart. Dressed in their different school uniforms, we hosted some of the students and their volunteer mentors to a one day ‘Back to School Character Building meeting’ held at Othakarhaka headquarters in Mulanje.
The Othakarhaka students’ character building initiative offers the students an opportunity to interact and get mentorship and advice from Othakarhaka education scholarship volunteer mentors before going back to their various boarding schools.
Addressing both the students and their mentors, Programs Director of Othakarhaka Foundation Ted Mwango shared words of encouragement, urging the students to work hard, stay focused, and recognize the profound impact they carry – the power to shape their destinies, pass on the kindness and uplift their communities.
In the year 2023, 72 out of 74 students under the Othakarhaka Education Scholarship program passed the Malawi School Certificate of Education exams, with 51 students achieving outstanding results earning them the possibility of being selected to study in different public Universities in Malawi. Notably, 34 of these 51 high achievers are girls, a big milestone for the Foundation’s unwavering commitment to empowering the marginalized girl child through education.
Special thanks goes to our education volunteer mentors who provide unwavering character building and mentorship support to our Secondary School Students. Their volunteer work has significantly improved the students’ performance and their good character while in school.
As these brilliant boys and girls go back to school to start the second term of the school year calendar, we invite you to join our cause. Your collaboration and support can help us to continue passing on the kindness to more boys and girls who cannot afford secondary school education in Malawi.
