OTK Scholarship Beneficiary Vincent Ligomeka Selected to Study Physics and Electronics Engineering

Meet Vincent Ligomeka, a proud beneficiary of the Othakarhaka Education Scholarship program since secondary school. We are excited to share that Vincent has been selected to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Electronics at Mzuzu University.

Hailing from Kamwendo Village in Mulanje district where he grew up with a poor single mother who relies on manual labor, Vincent faced numerous challenges that would have only led him to drop out of school.

He went to Chingoli Primary School and was selected to Thuchira Community Day Secondary School to attend his secondary education. However, his family’s financial situation made it impossible to continue supporting his education.

Vincent was able to join the Othakarhaka Education Scholarship Bursary program after going through the assessment process done by the Othakarhaka volunteers from his village, making his dream of higher education a reality.

During his school breaks, Vincent has continued to pass on kindness by joining his peers in community advocacy against child marriages and sometimes volunteering in the tree nurseries run by the Othakarhaka Foundation’s tree reforestation project.

As Vincent embarks on this new chapter as a university student, he not only represents his family as the first person to go this far with education but also serves as an inspiration to his rural community.

OTK appreciates the priceless compassion of our partners to support our mission of helping and passing on kindness to rural communities in Malawi through education.
