"Passing on the kindness is transforming communities in Malawi."

The young mother of 3 determined to rewrite her story through education at MUBAS

Meet our pride Tamara, she is the first-year student at Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), pursuing Telecommunications and Electronic Engineering (Honours) sponsored by a former USA singer and actress Pauley Perrette through I Demand Access (IDA).
Othakarhaka Foundation shares the remarkable journey of Tamara, a tenacious young woman from Mbewa village in Mulanje district. Tamara’s life took a challenging turn when circumstances forced her to drop out of school in 2011. Raised as an orphan, she confronted adversity with unwavering determination.

In 2019, fueled by a fierce desire to secure a brighter future for her children, Tamara took a courageous step. While still on Othakarhaka’s beneficiary waiting list, she started studying at home while doing a small samoosa business. When it was time to write her Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE ) exams, she enrolled herself at Trinity Secondary School, determined to rewrite her story.

Tamara’s diligence bore fruit as she excelled in her exams, achieving outstanding results in the Malawi School Certificate of Education. Her exceptional performance opened doors to the University of Malawi, where she now pursues Telecommunications and Electronic Engineering (Honours) at Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS).

Motivated by the belief that education can uplift her children and others facing similar hardships, Tamara’s inspiring journey caught the attention of Pauley Perrette from the USA. Pauley’s generous sponsorship has empowered Tamara to pursue her dreams.

As Tamara begins her journey as a first-year student, her story stands as a testament to resilience and determination, made possible through the support of our friends and sponsors. Today, we express gratitude for such acts of kindness, highlighting that the strength of individuals like Tamara is amplified when supported.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Pauley Perrette and I Demand Access for making Tamara’s education a reality. Your kindness enables dreams to flourish and futures to be transformed.
