"Passing on the kindness is transforming communities in Malawi."

US-based Health, Education, Life and Progress (HELP) Foundation donates assorted medical supplies to Othakarhaka Foundation

In March 2023, Akbar Arsiwala a full-time MBA student at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business alongside his peers, visited Malawi. During their visit, they came to work with Othakarhaka Foundation on the education-related project that will see Othakarhaka Foundation transforming into a center for education excellence in Mulanje district and beyond. While in Malawi, Akbar was impressed by our efforts, especially in providing community health services to patients suffering from chronic illnesses and cervical cancer screening for the rural community in our area of Chambe. Witnessing the needs firsthand, he shared his experiences upon returning to the USA with his father, Dr. Mohammad Arsiwala, who is associated with the Health, Education, Life, and Progress (HELP) Foundation.

In collaboration with the HELP Foundation and his dad, Akbar initiated and facilitated the donation of an assortment of crucial medical supplies, including glucometers, gauges, bandages, walking sticks, plasters, BP machines, analgesics, antibiotics and antifungal medications. Akbar personally journeyed back to Othakarhaka Foundation in October 2023 to deliver this essential donation on behalf of the HELP Foundation.

Moreover, apart from the generous donation, Akbar and his longtime friend and MBA classmate Rahul Naik have initiated a commendable initiative called “Passing on the Kindness School Fund”. They are actively supporting three underprivileged students studying in various medical universities in Malawi through Othakarhaka Foundation, providing invaluable assistance to these aspiring doctors who in turn will serve their communities.

At Othakarhaka, we deeply value and acknowledge these acts of kindness, recognizing the profound impact they have on healthcare services to marginalized and rural communities. We welcome all types of donations towards our Public Health Programs and if you have any questions on how you can partner or donate to us, please send us an email to administration@othakarhakafoundation.mw.
